The “Catahoula” means clear water in Indian language. This dog breed was bred for two purposes. The first purpose is herding cattle and hunting hogs. The second purpose is hunting black bear. Today, Catahoula Bulldog is serving as working dog, protection dog, guard dog, hunting dog and family pet.

- Appearance – The Catahoula Bulldog has a medium sized muscular body. The eye color is unique; it can come in brown, blue, ice, gold and emerald green. They may be come with a pair of button over type or rose type of ears. They have a rectangular shaped head and long tail. Their jaws are powerful. The coat is smooth and short.
